Bijapur: In a significant encounter on Wednesday, security forces eliminated over 15 Naxalites in the dense forests of Bijapur district, which borders Telangana. This operation is part of a larger counter-insurgency initiative currently in progress, according to a senior police official.
The clash erupted early in the morning within the Karregutta hills forest area along the inter-state boundary.
As of now, the death toll among the Naxalites stands at more than 15, and the operation is still ongoing.
Dubbed Operation Sankalp, this mission is one of the largest counter-insurgency efforts ever undertaken in the Bastar region, involving approximately 24,000 security personnel from various units. These include the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force (STF), state police units, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its elite CoBRA unit.
The operation commenced on April 21, following intelligence reports regarding the presence of senior members from battalion no. 1, recognized as the most formidable military faction of the Maoists, as well as members of the Telangana state committee of Maoists.
